Instagram users may now use “Quiet mode” to pause notifications

Instagram now has a new ‘Quiet mode,’ which allows users to suspend notifications whenever they want to take a break from the social networking app.

Users will not get notifications once the new mode is set, and their profile’s activity status will change to notify others, the company stated in a blog post on Thursday.

Furthermore, when a user sends a direct message, the platform will immediately send an auto-reply (DM).

Users can simply customize their Quiet mode hours to meet their schedule, and once the feature is disabled, the platform will display a fast summary of alerts so they can catch up on what they missed.

“Anyone can use Quiet mode, but we’ll prompt teens to do so when they spend a specific amount of time on Instagram late at night,” the company said.

The new mode is currently available to users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with more countries to follow.

In addition, the company revealed new tools that would allow users to inform the platform whatever content they do not want to be recommended to them.

Users can now hide several pieces of content from the Explore page that they are not interested in, and the platform will try to avoid giving them that type of content in the future.

Furthermore, the platform has developed a feature that enables users to hide comments and direct messages that contain particular words.

Users can now avoid words, emojis, or hashtags such as “fitness” or “recipes” by adding a phrase or list of words, emojis, or hashtags.

“In addition to providing teens with more ways to manage their time and experiences on Instagram, we want to help parents be more aware of the choices their teens make,’ Meta said.

“Parents can now also view accounts their teen has blocked,” it added.
