Google has announced that the fall detection feature is now available on all Pixel watches.
The fall detection function employs motion sensors incorporated into the users’ watches and on-device machine learning to assess if the wearer had a hard fall, according to a blog post published on Tuesday by the tech giant.
In addition, if the user does not move or answer after 30 seconds, it will contact emergency services.
“You can turn the feature on in the ‘Updates’ page on the Watch Companion app or directly on the Pixel Watch in the Personal Safety app,” it added.
The tech giant added that thanks to its machine learning algorithms and “rigorous testing,” Pixel watches can distinguish between a harsh fall and engaging in “vigorous physical activity.”
“We trained this process using a broad variety of human and simulated fall data and other motion patterns to accurately detect real falls and minimise potential false alarms,” it added.
The first Pixel Watch with Wear OS 3.5 was introduced by Google in October of last year. In that same announcement, it was noted that “Fall detection (coming in 2023) can determine if you’ve had a hard fall, connecting you to emergency services and even auto-dialing if you’re unresponsive.”
Similar fall detection technology was launched by Apple in 2018 with the release of the Watch Series 4.
