YouTube Adds “Recorded with a Camera” Label for Authentic Videos

YouTube is rolling out a new feature that labels videos as “Recorded with a Camera” to indicate they were filmed and uploaded without any significant changes. This move aims to help users identify authentic videos that haven’t been altered or generated by AI, allowing for greater transparency and trust in content.

Integration with C2PA Standard The label is based on the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standard, which tracks the origins of digital content. However, only videos created with devices that support C2PA can use the label, though YouTube expects wider adoption as more devices integrate the standard.

Small Edits Allowed YouTube has clarified that small edits, such as cuts or minor adjustments, won’t disqualify a video from receiving the label, provided the core content remains intact and the metadata stays unaltered. The goal is to distinguish real content from AI-generated videos, not to penalize creators for minor edits.
