Xiaomi looks to be preparing for a major foldable push in the second half of 2024, with two new devices, the Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip, set to be released in China sometime in Q3. However, recent leaks suggest that neither of these foldables will make it outside of the Chinese market, at least initially.

The latest details on Xiaomi’s planned foldable lineup come from the respected tipster Digital Chat Station. According to the leak, both the Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip will be powered by Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which promises top-tier performance.

However, the actual feature of these devices may be their camera capabilities. Both foldable cameras are said to feature a powerful 50-megapixel main sensor with a large 1/1.55-inch sensing area and optical image stabilization (OIS). Additionally, they will reportedly sport a 2x telephoto camera equipped with the 1/2.8-inch Omnivision OV60A sensor.

The Mix Fold 4, Xiaomi’s foldable smartphone, is rumored to have a few extra tricks up its sleeve. It is said to feature a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 10-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. Notably, the Mix Fold 4 is expected to be Xiaomi’s first foldable phone with an IP rating, offering protection against dust and water ingress.

Furthermore, the Mix Fold 4 is tipped to support wireless charging, although details about the battery size remain unknown for now.

While Xiaomi’s foldable ambitions seem to be ramping up, it’s disappointing to learn that these devices may not make their way to international markets anytime soon. However, the company’s focus on powerful cameras and top-tier hardware could give it a competitive edge in the growing foldable market, at least in China.
