WhatsApp is developing a new Mac app that makes better use of system resources by utilizing the Apple Mac Catalyst development environment.

Apart from its web version accessed through browsers, AppleInsider reports that WhatsApp currently offers a web-based Electron app for Mac users.
Software development frameworks like Electron and Catalyst aid in the creation of desktop applications.
The new app has been in closed beta for a few months, but according to the report, anyone may now download the file on macOS Big Sur or later via the WhatsApp website.
After installation, it will display a QR code that users may scan with their iPhone to link their accounts with the WhatsApp iOS app.
Access to starred messages, phone conversations, and settings are all available through the Mac app’s three-panel layout.
The report listed features like file drag-and-drop and a spell-checker that aren’t present in the Electron version of the Catalyst app.
On iOS, WhatsApp is said to have rolled out some new shortcuts that enable group admins to swiftly and simply carry out activities for a specific group participant.
As the platform now allows big groups with up to 1,024 people, the new shortcuts make interacting with group members easier.
The new update will make it easier for acting to rapidly manage and have private communications with such a large number of users.
