WhatsApp is adding another creative layer to its platform with new camera effects and filters, expanding the app’s photo and video capabilities. As part of the latest beta update for Android (version 2.24.20.20), the messaging giant is testing a feature that allows users to apply filters directly within the camera interface.
Previously, these effects were only available during video calls, but now users can experiment with them for photos and videos. The new feature includes a filter button that makes it easy to flip through various effects, from skin-smoothing to background blurring or replacing the real-world scene with virtual environments. These camera effects are currently available to some beta testers but are expected to roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp’s decision to integrate camera effects brings the app in line with its Meta siblings, Facebook and Instagram, both of which have long offered similar features. This update enhances WhatsApp’s functionality, allowing users more creative freedom and customization when sharing visual content.
Additionally, WhatsApp is experimenting with tagging contacts in status updates and testing features aimed at reducing spam, further broadening its social features.
