A screenshot from the latest beta shows that WhatsApp is working on a feature that informs users when a contact or group member sets up a username. This means that whenever someone updates their username, a notification message will appear in the conversation, ensuring transparency. Additionally, users will see a confetti animation when they create or modify their username, confirming a successful update.
This update aims to eliminate confusion by helping users instantly recognize when a contact changes their username. In group chats, where unknown participants are present, this feature can be especially useful in identifying any unexpected username changes that might otherwise raise suspicion.
Username Change Alerts for Improved Clarity
WhatsApp isn’t stopping at username creation notifications. The company is also working on alerts for when a contact deletes or changes their username. If someone modifies their username, a new notification will appear in the chat, ensuring users stay aware of any identity changes.
Without this feature, users might not realize that a frequent contact has updated their username, potentially leading to confusion. By introducing these alerts, WhatsApp enhances security, prevents impersonation risks, and ensures a seamless communication experience.
