TikTok has expanded into the world of augmented and virtual reality by launching a specialized app for Apple’s newly released Vision Pro headset. The app aims to translate TikTok’s iconic vertical video viewing experience into an immersive 3D environment, while taking advantage of the Vision Pro’s capabilities for interacting with digital content interweaved with physical surroundings.
The layout retains the recognizable building blocks of the standard mobile TikTok UI that billions have grown accustomed to. Videos play in a vertical format, overlaid by familiar like, comment, share and sound buttons.
However, the augmented reality format enables additional UI windows not possible on the cramped smartphone display. Specifically, TikTok surfaces expanded comment feeds and creator information without obstructing the central video viewer.

Even more novel, the app lets users position TikTok’s feed of viral short form videos into real world environments visible through the Vision Pro headset. This merges physical and digital spaces for a blended reality effect. Alternatively, the app can transport the entire TikTok experience into a fully virtual setting detached from physical reality – such as streaming videos while virtually standing on the moon.
The TikTok software integration exemplifies the Vision Pro’s multitasking capabilities, allowing simultaneous use alongside other apps while handling transitions cleanly. This could enable seamless shifts from browsing TikTok to conferencing via Vision Pro’s augmented meeting rooms.
While pioneers like TikTok and Disney dive head first into augmented reality, other heavy hitters like Netflix and YouTube take a more measured approach for now. The companies suggest users view standard content through browsers, holding off on apps until spatial computing proves itself in the mainstream.
