Bethesda is releasing a major update for its highly anticipated space RPG, Starfield, that addresses player feedback and introduces several updates. This update, which is now accessible in beta on Steam, will be delivered to all users on May 15.
One of the most significant additions in this update is the improvement of surface maps, a feature that has been a point of criticism since the game’s launch. Bethesda has acknowledged the community’s feedback, stating, “We’ve heard your feedback, and we’ve made some big improvements to surface maps, so you’ll always know just where to go and no longer ‘get lost’ on the way to your parent’s place (and they weren’t buying that excuse anyway; you should go visit them).”
The update promises to provide more detailed and comprehensive surface maps, ensuring players can navigate the game’s vast environments with greater ease and precision.
From improved surface maps to new gameplay difficulty options, here's some of what we have in store for @StarfieldGame's latest update – available in Steam Beta now!

Xbox Series X users are also in for a treat since the update includes new display options tailored exclusively for the console. Following input from players desiring greater flexibility over image fidelity and performance, Bethesda implemented the following changes:
- Frame Rate Target: VRR displays now provide players the option of a frame rate of 30, 40, 60, or uncapped. The options for non-VRR displays running at 120Hz are limited to 30 or 60 frames per second, with screen tearing possible if 60 is selected.
- Prioritize: This setting allows players to prioritize either visuals or performance while trying to maintain the selected frame rate target. Bethesda recommends prioritizing performance for frame rate targets of 60 or above.
Additionally, the update brings new ship decorations, a revamped difficulty menu, and numerous gameplay fixes and improvements, addressing various bugs and issues reported by the community.
Bethesda’s commitment to developing Starfield based on player feedback is admirable, and this significant update will undoubtedly improve the overall gameplay experience for players across all platforms.
