Samsung executives including Vice President Ha-Ryong Yoon, recently revealed plans to begin mass production of upgraded LPDDR5T DRAM chips in 2024. The new memory technology promises enhanced performance and capabilities for AI processing in smartphones and other devices.
In a recent investor meeting, Samsung addressed being beat to market with initial LPDDR5T solutions by rivals SK Hynix and Micron Technology. However, executives stated that Samsung has its own LPDDR5T DRAM chips slated for launch next year to compete for industry customers.
The company is also working on an improved iteration of its current LPDDR5X chips to debut in 2024. Samsung remains a leader in pushing DRAM technology forward, with GDDR7 and automobile SSD solutions for 2024-2025 in the pipeline as well.
The LPDDR5T plans come as Samsung prepares the launch its Gauss AI engine and on-device “Galaxy AI” assistant rumored for integration into 2024 Galaxy S series phones. Investors heard updates about preparing Gauss and AI performance boosts enabled by LPDDR5T RAM.
