Google is now officially rolling out the May 2024 security update for both Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 wearables running Wear OS 4. The update, which mostly addresses security issues, is expected to arrive on eligible devices within the next week, but the rollout timing may vary depending on the provider and device model.
While the May 2024 software update for Google’s smartwatches has no major new features, it does provide the latest security patches to assure the devices’ continued protection against any attacks. When the over-the-air (OTA) update for the Pixel Watch becomes ready, users will receive a message inviting them to download it.
The update has the build number TWD9.240505.001.A1, and users may manually check for its availability by going to the “System updates” section in the “System” settings on their Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2.
Although the May 2024 update primarily addresses security issues, Pixel Watch owners may expect further updates and improvements in the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop, which is slated for June 2024.
Google’s last Feature Drop in March 2024 improved the original Pixel Watch with capabilities such as pace and heart rate-based zone training, automated workout recognition, and others that were previously only available on the Pixel Watch 2.
Meanwhile, in April 2024, Google published an update that included haptic feedback for viewing the time and better auto-brightness capability, therefore improving the entire user experience on the Pixel Watch.
