Starting from August 1st, Microsoft is set to implement price adjustments for its Xbox products, as per reports from Engadget. As stated, the Xbox Series X will be priced at $650 CAD in Canada, £480 in the UK, €550 across most European countries, and $800 AUD in Australia. These price adjustments align closely with the changes Sony made for the PS5 in various markets last year.
“We’ve held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market,” Xbox communications chief Kari Perez told The Verge. “These Game Pass price adjustments are not related to the Activision Blizzard deal and are intended to match local market conditions.”
The Verge added that, countries like the US, Japan, Chile, Brazil, or Colombia, the console will stay the same price.
Although console prices have not increased in the US, Xbox Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers there won’t have the same luck. Game Pass for Console and Game Pass Ultimate currently have monthly fees of $9.99 and $14.99, respectively. A $1 price hike will bring Game Pass for consoles to $10.99 (€10.99/£8.99), while a $2 price increase would bring Game Pass Ultimate to $16.99 (€14.99/£12.99). The cost of Game Pass for PC will not change.
The price rise is set to take effect on July 6 for new subscribers. Existing monthly subscribers, on the other hand, will have a bit more time because the change will not take effect until August 13. The increased prices will go into effect in Germany in September. Annual subscribers will not see the price increase until they renew next year.
With the exception of Norway, Chile, Denmark, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia, the price rise for Game Pass will be enforced across the majority of areas.
