Microsoft 365 users faced a major Microsoft 365 outage on Thursday, leaving thousands unable to access services like Outlook and Teams.
The issue began around 7:50 AM ET, affecting users predominantly on the U.S. East Coast, as reported by Downdetector, which logged over 20,000 user complaints by 8:30 AM ET.
Microsoft said it was ‘investigating an issue where users may be unable to access’ multiple 365 services such as email and Teams.
But its Azure cloud platform said on X, formerly Twitter, that it was investigating customer reports of a potential issue connecting Microsoft’s services from AT&T networks.
As of now, the cause of the outage remains unclear.
This outage marks Microsoft second major disruption in the past two months. On July 30, 2024, Microsoft experienced a global outage that affected access to its Office, Outlook, and Azure services. Microsoft later confirmed that the July outage was caused by a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which overwhelmed its servers with excessive internet traffic.
As of now, Microsoft has not provided a clear timeline for when services will be fully restored. The company continues to investigate the issue, leaving many businesses and individuals waiting for a resolution.
