iPhone 16 Rumored to Feature Up to Seven Frosted Glass Color Options

Apple appears set to continue its unique frosted glass design for the rear panel of the upcoming iPhone 16 models, according to the latest rumors.

A Weibo-based leaker known as “Fixed focus digital” claims to have seen the color options for the iPhone 16 lineup, which could include up to seven different shades this year, an increase from the five colors offered with the iPhone 15.

Last year, Apple debuted a custom dual-ion exchange glass process for the non-premium iPhone 15 models, resulting in a frosted effect that contrasted with the main frame color. Apple described the process as “infusing color throughout the back glass” and “polishing with nanocrystalline particles and etching to create a luxurious, textured matte finish.”

If the rumors are accurate, the iPhone 16 series will continue to feature this unique glass treatment, potentially expanding the color palette further. However, it’s worth noting that neither “Fixed focus digital” nor the other source mentioned in the rumor, have established a reliable track record for accurate Apple leaks.

According to Apple’s description of the iPhone 15’s frosted glass design, the process involves “strengthening the back glass with an optimized dual-ion exchange process before polishing and etching.” This innovative technique not only results in a distinctive appearance but also adds durability to the rear panel.

While the rumor focuses on the iPhone 16 lineup, another Weibo source suggested last month that Apple could extend the dual-ion exchange glass process to the back of the iPhone 16 Pro models as well. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to feature a titanium frame similar to the iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple typically unveils its new iPhone lineup around mid-September each year, so more concrete details about the iPhone 16 series, including its design and color options, should emerge in the coming months as the launch approaches.
