Apple today released iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5, major updates to the iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 operating systems, which debuted in September. These updates include numerous major new features and improvements for compatible iPhones and iPads.
Cross-platform tracking detection is one of the major updates in iOS 17.5. It is now possible for users to get notifications, independent of the operating system the device is linked to if a suitable Bluetooth tracker that they do not own moves with them. This feature warns users of possible monitoring situations and improves user privacy and security across several platforms.
For users in the European Union, iOS 17.5 now supports web-based app deployment. iPhone owners in the EU may now download apps straight from developer websites without using the App Store. The change complies with the Digital Markets Act, which encourages competition and consumer choice in the digital marketplace.
Apple News+ also receives major updates in iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5. Users may now access an offline mode, which allows users to read the Today feed and News+ page without an internet connection.
Additionally, a new original daily word game called “Quartiles” has been added to the News+ Puzzles section, joining the existing Crossword and Mini Crossword games.
The News+ Puzzles section now includes a Scoreboard feature, providing users with access to player data, including stats and streaks for various games.
