In a significant leadership transition, Honor’s CEO, Zhao Ming, has stepped down from all positions due to health concerns. The company’s board has appointed Li Jian, a former Huawei executive, as the new CEO.
Zhao Ming, who led Honor since its separation from Huawei, played a pivotal role in establishing the brand’s independent operations, including research and development, product development, and supply chain management. Under his leadership, Honor achieved notable milestones, such as launching the Honor V40, its first product post-separation, in January 2021.
The newly appointed CEO, Li Jian, brings extensive experience from his tenure at Huawei, where he was involved in major strategic reforms and led crucial business initiatives. His expertise in strategic management and global operations is expected to drive Honor’s growth in the competitive smartphone market.
This leadership change comes at a critical time for Honor, as the company completed its shareholding reform and rebranded as Honor Device Co., Ltd. at the end of 2024, marking a significant step toward an initial public offering (IPO). The Chinese smartphone market remains fiercely competitive, with Honor holding a 15% market share in 2024, according to data analysis agency Canalys.
