WhatsApp is adding new features to compete with other messaging apps like Telegram. The latest beta release includes the ability to send HD pictures, an upgraded user interface, and screensharing for Android. Users can now record and send video messages and take advantage of a new callback feature.
The latest WhatsApp Beta release on Android and iOS as spotted by WABetaInfo, allows some testers to send real-time video messages instead of pre-recorded videos. To check if this feature is available, tap the microphone button in the chat bar. If it changes to a video camera button, you can send recorded video messages. Note that the recipient must also have the latest WhatsApp version to receive video messages.
Video messages are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be directly forwarded. However, they can be saved using screen recording software and sent as a media file. The “view once” mode is not currently available for video messages.
The feature is currently limited to beta testers with the latest versions of WhatsApp beta for iOS (version 23.12.0.71) and Android (version 2.23.13.4). While you can still send recorded videos, this new feature offers a more convenient way to send real-time recordings. It is expected to be available to more users in the future, but there is no confirmed release timeline.
WhatsApp has also introduced a callback feature in its beta apps. Users can quickly call back someone who missed their call on the Windows beta app (version 2.2323.1.0). This feature improves the efficiency of the app on Windows and allows users to respond promptly to missed calls.
To check if you have access to the enhanced callback functionality, install the latest WhatsApp Beta update from the Microsoft Store. It is expected to be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.
