PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is taking gamers on a nostalgic journey by restoring the classic version of the legendary Erangel map. PUBG Studios’ 2024 roadmap hinted at the return of an old map while promising to “reimagine existing worlds” and develop new in-game experiences. For a limited time, the Erangel Classic will replace the most recent upgrade to the Erangel on both PC and console.
When can you play Erangel Classic?
The nostalgia map will be available on PC from May 14 to May 28, while console players can access it between May 23 and June 6. During certain times, Erangel Classic will replace the normal match rotation on the current Erangel map.
What is different about Erangel Classic?
Erangel Classic tries to recreate the vibe of PUBG’s early days with a number of nostalgic features and gameplay changes:
The game features cloudy and rainy weather, bench weapons on the starting island, a classic UI with the original minimap, global map, typography, and artwork, lower recoil on guns for a more forgiving gunplay experience, longer knockdown times, and the Tommy Gun appears in care packages, clothing and helmets spawn on the ground.

Improved Anti-Cheat Coming
In addition to the classic map rebirth, PUBG Studios plans to prioritize updates to the game’s anti-cheat system in 2024. The developer banned over 3 million cheats in 2023, a 33% increase over 2022. This year, machine learning technology will be used to better detect popular hacks such as aimbots and ESP, resulting in a more fair competing experience.
As PUBG evolves, the Erangel Classic limited-time event provides a nostalgic trip down memory lane for longstanding players while also providing new recruits a taste of the battle royale’s origins. With lower recoil weaponry and a return to the popular original battlefield, PUBG is ready to provide a distinctively nostalgic experience in 2024.
