Elon Musk’s Starlink, the satellite internet service has officially established its presence in Nigeria, putting an end to months of debate about the company’s future in the country.
The parent company, SpaceX, on twitter confirmed that “Starlink is now available in Nigeria – the first African country to receive service.”

The satellite service provider had previously stated that the product would be available for preorder in the country for $600 and that interested customers would be able to subscribe to the internet service for a monthly fee of $43, amounting to approximately N438,000 and N31,000 in local currency for subscriptions to its services.
Customers were also told by the company via its website that a 30-day trial of the device would be available.
The update also revealed that although the membership will cost N19,260 instead of the previously announced N274,098, the hardware would still be available for that price.
“Starlink is currently available in your area. Customers in your region typically see download speeds of 50-200 Mbps. No contracts, 30-day trial,” “Shipping times are currently estimated to be 1 to 2 weeks from order… N19,260/month for service and N274,098 for hardward.” the company said.
The Nigerian Communication Commission, or NCC, granted the Internet company’s license in May 2022 and partnered with Space X to provide broadband services nationwide.
With the subscription amounts now quoted in Naira, some Nigerians may be able to purchase the product using their naira debit cards rather than the dollar prices previously quoted.
