Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has established a startup dubbed X.AI to promote artificial intelligence (AI), that could stand as a potential rival to OpenAI.
Per to a paperwork, the company, which is incorporated in Nevada, Texas, has Jared Birchall, director of Musk’s family office, named as secretary and Musk as the only listed director.
The Financial Times reported that Mr. Musk had gathered AI experts and was looking into funding options with the help of SpaceX and Tesla investors, adding that the new business might compete with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI.
The Wall Street Journal claims that X.AI has given the go-ahead for the sale of 100 million shares for the privately held company.
The CEO of Twitter had purchased tens of thousands of graphic processing units (GPUs), which are essential to accelerating the computers that drive sophisticated AI processes, as per a report by Business Insider.
Musk first spent $100 million in OpenAI in 2015, but later quit and has criticized the company’s activities and funding approach.
He has also voiced his concerns about the potential for AI technology to become dangerous and signed an open letter urging a halt to the testing of potent AI systems.
