Google has set a termination date for its Google Play Movies & TV app – January 17th, 2024. This change comes as Google continues evolving its entertainment offerings.
The app will gradually disappear over the following few weeks from Android TV devices and the Google Play website in the run-up to its end, though timelines vary.
After January 17th next year, Android TV, Google TV devices, the Google TV mobile app, and YouTube will remain avenues for users to access previously purchased movie and TV show content.
Specifically on Android TVs, the new Shop tab and Your Library section will become home base for watching, buying and renting films. For cable boxes and set-top boxes running Android TV, YouTube will assume app duties for purchased and new titles.
Meanwhile on the web, Google redirects users to YouTube for their purchased library and film store needs after the shutdown date.
So the clock ticks down on Google Play Movies & TV’s remaining time on Android TV. Users are encouraged to prepare for this latest evolution in Google’s ongoing app integration efforts. By early 2024, a new entertainment era will dawn.
