Apple has unveiled its latest generation of the iPad mini, incorporating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, including writing tools and an improved Siri assistant. Powered by the A17 Pro chip, also used in the iPhone 15 Pro models, the new iPad mini offers a 30% boost in CPU performance compared to previous versions. This chip will be crucial in running Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI software.

The first set of AI features will roll out in the U.S. later this month with iPadOS 18.1, available for iPads with A17 Pro or M1 chips and newer. Apple plans to introduce additional features, such as image-generation tools, Genmoji, and ChatGPT-powered capabilities, in the coming months.

Despite initial concerns around the AI features and iPhone 16 sales, research firm Canalys predicts the iPhone 16 will boost Apple’s fourth-quarter sales and drive momentum into 2025. The new iPad mini, starting at $499, is now available for pre-order and will be delivered to customers next week.
