Twitter, announced on Thursday that users can now challenge account suspensions.
The move is a part of Twitter’s last week announced “less severe actions” against user accounts that violate its rules, encouraging users to delete contentious posts and move on.
“Starting today, anyone can request that we review a suspended account for reinstatement under our new criteria,” said Twitter.
“We appreciate your patience as we work through a high volume of these requests,” it added.
Like all other Twitter accounts, restored accounts are still subject to the platform’s policies.
The business announced last week that it would only suspend Twitter accounts for “severe or ongoing, repeat violations” of its policies.
Moving forward, the microblogging site promised to take “less severe actions, such as limiting the reach of policy-violating Tweets or asking you to remove Tweets before you can continue using your account.”
Account suspension will only be used in cases of serious or persistent, repeated violations of our policies, it was added.
Serious offenses include, but are not limited to, posting or engaging in illegal content or behavior, encouraging or threatening violence or injury, violating people’s privacy, abusing platforms for commercial gain, or harassing specific individuals.
Twitter has stated that it is actively reinstating previously suspended accounts.
Furthermore, the platform stated that it will keep working on tools that will transparently show when we have taken enforcement measures and “expect to begin rolling these out in Februar.”
